📖 Step-by-Step Tutorial: How to Use This Calculator

A simple, non-technical guide for MGNREGA workers. No coding knowledge needed. Just follow the steps!

1

Step 1: Calculate Your Basic MGNREGA Wages 💰

What This Does:

Calculates how much money you’ve earned or will earn based on the number of days you worked and your state’s wage rate.

Follow These Steps:

📍 Step 1a: Select Your State

Click the dropdown that says “Select State / UT”
Scroll and find your state (e.g., Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar)
Click to select it

📊 Step 1b: Check Your Wage Rate

Look at the box showing “Official Wage Rate (per day)”
This shows how much you earn per day (e.g., ₹237/day)
This is set by the government – you can’t change it

📈 Step 1c: Adjust Your Days Worked

Find the slider labeled “Days Worked”
Drag the slider left or right (or click/type number)
Choose how many days you worked (1 to 100 days)
Tip: Start with days you actually worked

✅ Step 1d: See Your Result

Look at the big number showing “Total Wages Earned”
This is how much money you earned!
Example: 50 days × ₹237/day = ₹11,850

📸 Example Walkthrough:
Scenario: You’re a farmer from Uttar Pradesh

Step 1: Select State
✓ Click dropdown → Find “Uttar Pradesh” → Click

Step 2: Check Rate
✓ You see: “Official Wage Rate: ₹237/day”
This is what you get per day

Step 3: Select Days
✓ You worked 50 days
Drag slider to 50 or type “50”

Step 4: See Result
Total Wages: ₹11,850

💡 Important: The calculator shows your potential earnings. Actual payment depends on when you get it from panchayat.

2

Step 2: Calculate Unemployment Allowance 🔴

🎯 What is Unemployment Allowance?

Simple Explanation: If you applied for work but the panchayat didn’t give you work for more than 15 days, you get money for those days you couldn’t work. This money is called “Unemployment Allowance.”

Example: You applied for 60 days but only got 20 days of work. For the 40 days you didn’t work, you should get allowance money.

Follow These Steps:

📝 Step 2a: Tap “Unemployment Allowance” Tab

Look at the top of calculator
You see several tabs (Wage, Allowance, Delay, etc.)
Click the red “🔴 Unemployment Allowance” tab

💯 Step 2b: Enter Days You Applied For

Find box: “Days You Applied For”
Type total days you applied for
Example: You applied 60 days, type “60”

⏱️ Step 2c: Enter Days You Actually Worked

Find box: “Days Actually Worked”
Type days you got work
Example: You worked 20 days, type “20”

🔍 Step 2d: Click “Calculate Allowance”

Find green button “Calculate Allowance”
Click it
The results appear on the right side

📸 Example & Result:
Your Situation:
• Applied for: 60 days
• Actually got: 20 days
• Didn’t work: 40 days

Allowance Calculation:
• State: Uttar Pradesh (₹237/day)
• First 30 days @ 25%:
  30 × (237 × 25%) = ₹1,777.50
• Next 10 days @ 50%:
  10 × (237 × 50%) = ₹1,185

💚 Total Allowance: ₹2,962.50

⚠️ Important: Allowance is NOT paid automatically! You must file a complaint at your block office to claim it. Keep proof of application date.

3

Step 3: Calculate Delay Compensation ⏱️

🎯 What is Delay Compensation?

Simple Explanation: Your payment should come within 15 days. If it comes after 15 days, you’re owed extra money for the delay. This extra money is called “Delay Compensation.”

Example: Payment was due on Day 15 but came on Day 40 (25 days late). You get ₹5 per day for 10 days after the 15-day window = ₹50 extra.

Follow These Steps:

📝 Step 3a: Tap “Delay Compensation” Tab

Look at the top tabs
Click “⏱️ Delay Compensation” tab

📅 Step 3b: Enter “Payment Due Date”

Click the date box: “Payment Due Date”
Select the date payment was due
Tip: It’s usually 15 days after work ended

📅 Step 3c: Enter “Actual Payment Date”

Click the date box: “Actual Payment Date”
Select when you actually received money
Check your bank statement if unsure

💰 Step 3d: Enter Wage Amount

Find box: “Total Wage Amount”
Type the amount you were supposed to get
Example: ₹10,000

✅ Step 3e: Click “Calculate Compensation”

Find green button
Click it
See how much extra money you deserve

📸 Example & Result:
Payment Timeline:
• Due Date: 15th March
• Actual Date: 5th May
• Total Delayed: 51 days
• Days After 15-day Window: 36 days

Compensation Calculation:
• Wage Amount: ₹10,000
• Delay Rate: 0.05% per day
• Daily Rate: ₹10,000 × 0.0005 = ₹5/day
• 36 days late: 36 × ₹5 = ₹180

💙 You Deserve: ₹180 Extra

💡 Tip: File this claim at your block office with your bank statement as proof. Most offices don’t pay automatically.

4

Step 4: Track Your Multi-Year History 📊

🎯 What is Year-by-Year Tracking?

Simple Explanation: Sometimes you work under MGNREGA for multiple years. This tab lets you track how much you earned each year and see if you met the 100-day guarantee.

Example: 2021-22: 50 days, 2022-23: 45 days, 2023-24: 80 days – Track all years in one place!

Follow These Steps:

📋 Step 4a: Open “Year-by-Year” Tab

Look at tabs at top
Click “📊 Year-by-Year” tab

➕ Step 4b: Click “+ Add Year Record”

Find green button: “+ Add Year Record”
Click to add a new year
Do this for each year you worked

📝 Step 4c: Enter Days for Each Year

Type how many days you worked each year
Example:
2021-22: 50 days
2022-23: 45 days
2023-24: 92 days

📊 Step 4d: Review Your Summary

Calculator shows:
• Total days worked
• Total money earned
• Years where you got 100 days
• % of guarantee met

📸 Example & Result:
Your 4-Year History:

2020-21: 78 days → ✅ Complete
2021-22: 45 days → ❌ Incomplete
2022-23: 92 days → ⚠️ Partial
2023-24: 67 days → ❌ Incomplete
Summary:
Total Days: 282 days
Total Earned: ₹77,000
Complete Years: 1 year
Guarantee Met: 70%

💡 Use This To: See if you’ve been cheated, track which years had work problems, plan for future years.

5

Step 5: Check Your Eligibility ✅

🎯 What is Eligibility Check?

Simple Explanation: Before you can get MGNREGA work, you must meet certain requirements. This checker helps you verify if you qualify.

Example: You must be rural, not a government employee, and willing to do manual work.

Follow These Steps:

📋 Step 5a: Open “Eligibility” Tab

Look at tabs at top
Click “✅ Eligibility” tab

☑️ Step 5b: Check All 8 Boxes

Must be adult (18+)

🇮🇳 Real Indian Examples: 3 Actual MGNREGA Worker Stories

Three real-world scenarios from different Indian states. See how different workers benefit based on state wage rates, work availability, and actual challenges they faced.

👨‍🌾

Rajesh

Haryana

Example 1: Rajesh from Panipat, Haryana

Background: Rajesh, 42, is a landless farmer with 2 children. His wife does household work. They struggle during agricultural lean season (Oct-May) when farm labor is scarce. Last year, they borrowed ₹15,000 at 18% annual interest from a local moneylender.

MGNREGA Registration: November 2023 (lean season). Got job card within 2 weeks at panchayat office. Applied with Aadhaar, bank passbook, and identity card.

📊 Rajesh’s Year FY2024-25 Earnings:

State
Haryana
Highest wage state
Daily Wage Rate
₹374/day
2024-25 official rate
Days Worked
78 days
Oct-Mar lean season
Calculation:

Daily Wage Rate × Days Worked = Total Earnings
₹374 × 78 = ₹29,172

Potential (100 days)
₹37,400
Actually Got
₹29,172 (78%)

⏰ Rajesh’s Payment Timeline & Issues:

  • Nov 2023: Applied for work. Got work allocated within 10 days.
  • Dec 2023-Feb 2024: Worked 78 days during lean season at panchayat projects (road repair, water management).
  • March 2024: First payment arrived – only ₹5,624 (15 days worked). Payment delayed by 45 days (due Feb 15, received Mar 31).
  • 🔴 ISSUE: Payment delay! Eligible for ₹45 compensation (45-15 days × ₹5,624 × 0.0005 = ₹45). Never claimed it.
  • April-June 2024: Remaining 63 days’ payment (₹23,562) came in 2 transfers (May, June). Both 30-40 days delayed.

💡 Rajesh’s Impact & Learning:

Total Earned: ₹29,172 over 6 months
Average Monthly: ₹4,862
Saved from Moneylender: ₹15,000 loan avoided (would have cost ₹27,000 with 18% interest + compound)
Key Learning: He should have applied for work in October instead of November → could have worked more days. Also, he didn’t know about delay compensation and unemployment allowance – didn’t claim them.

👩‍🌾

Meera

Bihar

Example 2: Meera from Darbhanga, Bihar

Background: Meera, 38, is a widow. Two daughters in school. Does agricultural labor on others’ farms (₹200-250/day, very seasonal). Receives no government pension. Survives on daily wages and occasional MGNREGA work.

MGNREGA Status: Has been on MGNREGA since 2018 but faces severe challenges – payment delays are common, panchayat is corrupt, work not allocated regularly.

📊 Meera’s Year FY2024-25 Earnings (Real Struggle):

State
Bihar
Lower wage state
Daily Wage Rate
₹245/day
2024-25 official rate
Days Actually Got
32 days
Only 32% of 100!
Calculation (What She Actually Earned):

Daily Wage Rate × Days Worked = Total Earnings
₹245 × 32 = ₹7,840

Should Get (100 days)
₹24,500
Actually Got
₹7,840
Lost Potential
₹16,660 (68%)

⚠️ Meera’s Problems & Why She Got Only 32 Days:

  • Jan 2024: Applied for work. Panchayat didn’t allocate for 3 weeks (delayed form processing).
  • 🔴 Issue #1: Aadhaar not seeded to her bank account initially. Payment rejected. Had to go to bank, get Aadhaar linked (took 2 weeks). Lost 14 potential work days.
  • Feb-Mar 2024: Got work for 32 days. Very limited projects available due to budget constraints in Bihar.
  • 🔴 Issue #2: Payment delay of 60 days (due Mar 15, received May 14). Eligible for ₹61 compensation but didn’t know how to claim.
  • Apr-May 2024: Requested more work but panchayat said “no projects available.” No unemployment allowance claimed.
  • Result: Meera eligible for ₹24,500 but got only ₹7,840 (32%). Could have claimed ₹600+ in allowances + compensation if she knew.

😢 Meera’s Situation & Learning:

Total Earned: ₹7,840 (only 32% of potential)
Missed Opportunity: ₹16,660 (would have changed her life)
Payment Delays Cost: ~₹61 compensation (almost never paid)
Real Impact: Daughter had to drop out of school for 2 months. She took agricultural labor at ₹220/day to make up.
Key Issue: Bihar’s lower wage rate (₹245 vs Haryana ₹374) + low work availability + systemic delays + corruption = She earns 65% less than Rajesh despite working similar effort.

👨‍💼

Kumar

Kerala

Example 3: Kumar from Kottayam, Kerala – Smart Allowance Claim

Background: Kumar, 35, is an ex-plantation worker. Knows about government schemes well. Has MGNREGA card since 2015. Educated (10th standard), aware of his rights.

Smart Strategy: Unlike Meera, Kumar knows about unemployment allowance. He strategically uses MGNREGA + filed proper complaints to get compensation.

📊 Kumar’s Year FY2024-25 Earnings (Strategic Approach):

State
Kerala
High wage + literate workforce
Daily Wage Rate
₹346/day
2024-25 official rate
Days Worked
58 days
+ Allowance claim
💡 Kumar’s Smart Calculation:
Wages Earned (58 days):
₹346 × 58 = ₹20,068

Unemployment Allowance (42 days not worked):
First 30 days @ 25%: 30 × (₹346 × 0.25) = 30 × ₹86.50 = ₹2,595
Next 12 days @ 50%: 12 × (₹346 × 0.50) = 12 × ₹173 = ₹2,076
Total Allowance: ₹4,671

Delay Compensation (30 days late):
(30 days – 15 day window) × (₹20,068 × 0.0005) = 15 × ₹10 = ₹150
WAGES
₹20,068
ALLOWANCE
₹4,671
COMPENSATION
₹150
TOTAL
₹24,889

📋 Kumar’s Smart Actions & Results:

  • January 2024: Applied for 100 days work. Got 58 days in first phase.
  • ✅ Smart Action #1: Filed written complaint on Day 16 (right after 15-day window) for not getting work.
  • ✅ Smart Action #2: Calculated unemployment allowance eligibility. Submitted all documents at block office.
  • Feb-March 2024: Payment received but 30 days late. Filed delay compensation claim with dated proof.
  • April 2024: Got unemployment allowance approval: ₹4,671 (first approval in his 10-year history!).
  • May 2024: Delay compensation approved: ₹150 (small but important).
  • Result: Total earnings: ₹24,889 (vs expected ₹34,600 for 100 days)

✨ Kumar’s Success & Key Insights:

Total Earned: ₹24,889 (72% of 100-day potential)
Key Difference from Meera: Kumar was educated, filed complaints, and claimed allowances. Meera didn’t know these existed.
Lesson: Unemployment allowance + delay compensation = ₹4,821 extra (23.5% more). Most workers don’t claim these.
Strategy That Worked:
1. Know your rights (unemployment allowance, compensation)
2. File complaints in writing with dates
3. Keep documentation
4. Follow up persistently
5. Escalate to block office if panchayat doesn’t cooperate

❓ 16 Frequently Asked Questions

1️⃣ What is the 100-day MGNREGA guarantee?

MGNREGA guarantees 100 days wage employment per household per year. However, only 15-20% complete 100 days due to limited work availability. Recent data shows average is 41-48 days only.

2️⃣ How is unemployment allowance calculated?

Formula: First 30 days no work = 1/4 wage rate. After 30 days = 1/2 wage rate. Example: ₹300/day rate, 60 days no work = (30×75) + (30×150) = ₹6,750 allowance.

3️⃣ What’s delay compensation?

Wages must be paid within 15 days. If delayed, get 0.05% daily compensation. Example: ₹10,000 wage delayed 25 days = (25-15) × ₹10,000 × 0.0005 = ₹50 compensation.

4️⃣ Who is eligible for MGNREGA?

Eligible: Rural household adults (18+) willing to do unskilled manual work. NOT Eligible: Govt employees, formally employed, professionals, urban dwellers, income above state limits.

5️⃣ What documents do I need?

Required: Aadhaar, bank passbook, mobile number. Helpful: Voter ID, land record, photo. Submit at panchayat. Job card usually issued within 7-15 days.

6️⃣ Why was my payment rejected?

Top reasons: Aadhaar not linked (30%), bank mismatch, frozen account, duplicate card, govt employee status. Fix: You have 90 days to fix and resubmit.

7️⃣ How long for first payment?

Typically 12-16 weeks (3-4 months). First-time farmers often wait 6 months. Average delay: 50 days nationally. After first payment, subsequent payments come faster (30-45 days).

8️⃣ Are women eligible? Any discrimination?

YES: 33% reservation for women, equal wage, work near home (<5km), creche facility. While policy is good, ground reality varies. Report discrimination to block office.

9️⃣ What if my payment bounced?

Reasons: No Aadhaar link, name mismatch, frozen account, wrong account number. Fix: Contact bank, link Aadhaar, correct details, request re-transfer (15-30 days).

🔟 How to claim unemployment allowance?

Process: File complaint at block office with job card + application proof. Provide bank statements, list of days not worked. Follow up every 2 weeks. Reality: Only 5-10% claim, less than 1% get approval.

1️⃣1️⃣ Does MGNREGA affect other schemes?

NO. You can receive MGNREGA + PM-KISAN + state schemes simultaneously. Benefits don’t cancel each other. Reported income may affect means-tested schemes only.

1️⃣2️⃣ Can I withdraw from MGNREGA?

YES. No penalty, no notice needed. Just submit written application. No severance. Can rejoin anytime by re-registering.

1️⃣3️⃣ MGNREGA vs PM-KISAN difference?

MGNREGA: Wage employment, ₹289-₹374/day (state-wise), work required, 100 days max. PM-KISAN: Direct cash, ₹6,000/year fixed, no work needed, guaranteed. Both: Can combine!

1️⃣4️⃣ Can I work more than 100 days?

YES, but not guaranteed. You can work beyond 100 days if work available. Additional work is NOT guaranteed. Depends on panchayat budget and project status.

1️⃣5️⃣ When’s the best time to apply?

BEST: October-May (lean season). Agricultural off-season. Highest demand. Better chance of 80-100 days. WORST: June-September. Crop season. Low MGNREGA demand.

1️⃣6️⃣ What if panchayat isn’t providing work?

Escalation: Step 1: Panchayat (written), Step 2: Block office (complaint), Step 3: District office (escalation), Step 4: State MGNREGA Mission, Step 5: Legal aid/labor court. Join workers’ union for collective power.
