Frequently Asked Questions

How much SIP do I need to reach 1 crore?
It depends on your time horizon and expected return. At roughly 12% annual returns, about 20,000 a month for 15 years, or about 10,000 a month for 20 years, gets you close to 1 crore. Use the Crorepati or Goal-Based SIP calculator to find your exact figure.
Which gives better returns, SIP or FD?
Over the long term, equity SIPs have historically returned more than fixed deposits, around 12% versus about 7%, but SIPs carry market risk and can fall in the short term, while FDs give a fixed, safe return. Most investors use both: FDs and PPF for stability, SIPs for long-term growth.
What return should I assume for planning?
A common, slightly conservative assumption is 12% a year for equity mutual funds over the long term, 7 to 8% for debt and FDs, and 6% inflation. Lower assumptions give a safer plan; it is better to assume less and end with a surplus.
Are these calculators free and accurate?
Yes. Every calculator here is completely free, needs no sign-up, and uses current FY 2025-26 rates and formulas. Results are accurate estimates for planning; markets vary, so treat projections as a guide and review them regularly.
Should I clear debt before investing?
Usually yes for high-interest debt. Paying off a credit card at 36 to 42% is a guaranteed return no investment matches, so clear expensive debt first. You can invest alongside cheap debt like a home loan at around 9%.
